Functions

1. Ensure compliance with the Minerals Regulation Commission Act and Regulations or Rules made in accordance with the Act;
2. Grant, suspend and revoke mining and non-mining rights;
3. Regulate and monitor the mining industry and mining operations in the Republic;
4. Ensure orderly exploration and exploitation of mineral resources in the Republic and the optimal utilization of mineral resources at all mining operations in accordance with the mining policies and strategy;
5. Regulate and monitor mineral marketing;
6. Provide laboratory services for mineral analysis and valuation;
7. In collaboration with other relevant authorities, carry out inspections or investigations on safety, health and environmental issues related to exploration, mining and mineral processing operations or activities;
8. Ensure compliance with other relevant laws and regulations related to licensing, exploration, mining and mineral processing operations or activities;
9. In consultation with the Zambia Environmental Management Agency, monitor and audit environment management and environmental budget and expenditure for progressive rehabilitation and mine closure;
10. Prevent illegal mining, minerals smuggling and tax evasion in collaboration with other Government authorities;
11. Advise the Government on all matters relating to the management and development of mineral resources;
12. Promote and conduct research in the development and management of mineral resources in the Republic; and Board of Commission Functions of Board
13. Monitor the trading in, and export of, minerals
